Golden Hour Collective

Using the gallery for a launch, a reading or a review

Golden Hour Collective is a working gallery and print studio in Johannesburg, and between exhibitions the main room is offered as a quiet hire venue. It suits book launches and portfolio reviews rather than catered events, and the studio keeps working around whatever is booked.

Book launches

A reading, a short talk and a signing, with the current exhibition still on the walls behind the speaker. The room holds a seated group without turning into a formal auditorium, and the exposed brick and whitewashed walls do most of the atmosphere.

Portfolio reviews

Reviewers and artists who need a calm room, a table and good light on paper. Works can be laid out on the long bench or pinned to the wall, and the flat file is available if a session needs to move through a larger body of work.

Small talks and readings

A single speaker, a panel of two or three, or a reading tied to a printed edition. Because the studio is a working space, the setting stays plain: hand-set captions beside each work, no stage, no backdrop.

Press and print enquiries

Publishers and designers who want to look at how an edition was pulled, or discuss a small print run, can arrange a studio walkthrough. The platen press and the drying racks are part of the visit, not a separate tour.

Group visits

Classes, studios and writing groups that want to see the current show with someone from the collective on hand. Visits are kept small so people can actually get close to the work and ask about materials and process.

Quiet room hire

For a meeting, a recording or a small gathering that needs a plain room with good light. Hire is arranged around the exhibition calendar and open press days, so dates are checked against what is already on.

Check availability

Hire is not a packaged events product. The space is offered as it is, inside a working studio, and enquiries start through the contact form. The address is The Firs, 32 Seventh Avenue, Rosebank, Johannesburg, 2196, South Africa, and you can also call +27 86 832 8313 or write to hello@israelseniors.com

How a hire enquiry actually runs

Nothing about booking the room is hidden behind a package. You send a request, we check it against the exhibition calendar and the press days already on the wall, and you get a straight answer about whether the dates work.

One intake route, written down

Every hire request starts on the contact form. We log the date you asked for, the type of gathering and the number of people, so nothing depends on someone remembering a phone call. If a detail is missing, we ask for it in writing before anything is confirmed.

The room is checked, not assumed

Before we agree to a date, we walk the space ourselves: what is hanging on the walls that week, where the drying racks sit, whether an edition is mid-run on the platen press. A launch or review session has to fit around the studio's own work, not the other way round.

What you are told up front

We set out what the room holds, what stays in place during your event, and what the studio keeps running while you are here. If a request does not suit the space, we say so plainly rather than stretching the room to fit it.

Details confirmed in writing

Dates, access times and the shape of the session are put in writing before the day. Anything that changes later is sent as a written update, so both sides are working from the same version of the plan.

Where the room is

The gallery and print studio sit at The Firs, 32 Seventh Avenue, Rosebank, Johannesburg, 2196, South Africa. Hire enquiries are handled through the contact form, and that is the only route we use to take them on.

You can reach the studio by phone on +27 86 832 8313 or by email at hello@israelseniors.com if you need to clarify something before sending a request.

What hire here does and does not mean

A few plain clarifications, so nobody arrives expecting a venue that works like a hotel function room.

The room is inside a working studio

Hire does not pause the gallery. Exhibitions stay on the walls, the press keeps running on scheduled days, and someone may be inking a block while your reading is underway. If you need a sealed, silent room, this is not it.

Not a packaged events product

We do not offer catering, staffing, staging or a fixed event package. What is offered is the space itself, with its exposed brick, whitewashed walls and hand-set captions beside each work.

Suited to quiet gatherings

Book launches and portfolio reviews are the two uses the room was shaped around. Both work best when the focus stays on the work and the people in front of it, not on production.

Availability follows the calendar

Dates depend on the exhibition schedule and open press days, so a request is checked against both before anything is confirmed. Nothing is held or reserved until that check is done.

One intake route

All hire enquiries begin through the contact form. There is no separate booking system, no instant confirmation and no online calendar to pick a slot from. Write to us with the nature of the request and a preferred date, and the studio will reply from there.
