Golden Hour Collective

Before you write to us

A few practical things help us answer properly. None of it is a formality you have to get right.

Tell us what you are actually after. A visit to see what is on the walls this month, a walkthrough of the studio, an open press day, or a hire enquiry for a book launch or portfolio review. If you already know the date you have in mind, put it in. If you do not, that is fine too.

If your message is about a specific work, a print enquiry or the proof rack by the entrance, name it as clearly as you can. Sizes, edition details and paper are all things we can look up, but only if we know which sheet you mean.

What to include

  • Your name and a way to reach you.
  • What you would like to book or ask about.
  • A preferred date, if you have one.
  • How many people are coming, roughly.

If it is a hire

Say what kind of event it is and how you want the room set up. Book launches and portfolio reviews are what the space is usually used for, so tell us the shape of the evening and we can work from there.

Access and photos

If you need anything specific to move around the studio comfortably, mention it. If you want to see the room before you commit, ask and we can send photographs of the space as it currently stands.

Send a message to the studio

Tell us what you would like to see or ask about. The form below reaches the people who run the gallery and the press, so a note about a current show, a print from the rack, or a possible hire of the room lands in the right place. Nothing is booked or held by sending it, and no account is created.

Sending this passes your note to the studio and takes you to a confirmation page. It does not hold a date or create a booking.

Reach the studio

Golden Hour Collective works out of a shared space in Johannesburg, where a small group of painters and printmakers split the rent and the press time. If you want to ask about a show on the walls, the print studio, the unframed proofs kept at the entrance, or hiring the room for a book launch or a portfolio review, write to us or call.

Messages land with the people who actually run the space, so a question about a linocut edition or a screenprint run reaches someone who pulled it. Nothing here books a slot on its own, and no reply time is promised.

What people usually ask about

  • The current show. Which artists are on the walls this month, what medium they work in, and whether a particular piece is still available.
  • The print studio. Open press days, how an edition is pulled on the old platen press, and what a studio walkthrough covers.
  • The proof rack. What an unframed artist proof is, how it differs from a numbered print, and how to pick one up at the entrance.
  • Hiring the space. Book launches and portfolio reviews, and what the room can hold for a quiet evening.

Use the form on this page for any of the above. It reaches the studio directly and routes to a confirmation once the handler receives it.

Where to find the gallery and studio

One address covers both the exhibition rooms and the print studio. Use it for post, for a courier, or to plan a visit before you write to us.

The Firs sits on Seventh Avenue in Rosebank, Johannesburg. If you are sending a portfolio, a print enquiry or a hire proposal by post, this is the address to use. The same building holds the gallery walls, the flat file, and the platen press, so anything addressed here reaches the people who run the space rather than a separate office.

Postal and contact address

The Firs, 32 Seventh Avenue
Rosebank, Johannesburg, 2196
South Africa

A contact and postal address only. It is not a shop counter or a pickup point, so please write before sending anything that needs a signature.

Write or call

Messages about a current show, an edition in progress, the proof rack, or a possible hire all land in the same inbox. The form on this page reaches the same place.

Before you travel

We do not publish fixed visiting hours here, and no booking is created when you send a message. If you want to see a specific edition or a work on the wall, mention it and we can tell you whether it is still in the building.

The area around the address

Rosebank is a central Johannesburg suburb, and the address falls inside the wider city centre grid. The map below marks the general area rather than a doorway, since the pin covers a broad block and should not be read as a precise entrance. Use it to get your bearings, then confirm the details with us by email or phone before you set out.

If the map does not load, the written address above is the reliable version. Anything sent by post should carry the full street line, the suburb and the postal code.
